Location: 8989 boulevard de l’Acadie, Montréal, QC
Year of project completion: 2003
In Joint Venture with: Studio MMA Architects, Lyse M. Tremblay Architect
The MEC store, a 4,500 square metre, two-storey retail outlet provides a visual and spatial experience consistent with the ethical and environmental responsibility mission of the client.
The program was to develop a large-scale retail outlet conforming to the stringent environmental objectives of MEC and achieved: reduced energy during construction; reduced building operation energy; maximized natural illumination and ventilation; reduced waste material from the construction process; use of salvaged construction material; use of materials that are high in recycled content; use of renewable energy sources; reduced water consumption. Although MEC does not certify its buildings, the objective was LEED Gold compliance. The building was the first C-2000 retail outlet in Quebec. The sustainability objectives were achieved through integrated design process.
