Grand Manan Community School

The program proposed locating grades K-12 in one building. This was achieved through two major additions and significant interior renovations to an existing school. K-5 were housed in a new elementary wing. A new gymnasium and library were located in close proximity to the Great Hall, defining the school’s new central activity core. New construction at the front of the site strengthened the school’s presence along the street. Sustainable design principles such as attention to improving building envelop performance criteria and quality of interior environment were key objectives.
